How To Dry And Cure Weed
Just as challenging as the grow, is the ability to dry and cure your harvest properly. I tell you, there's nothing worse than a beautiful harvest gone to waste because the fool didn't dry and cure his weed properly. All that THC and then the mould takes hold and ruins your buds. Please follow this quick basic guide to ensure you don't make the same mistake.
Step 1, The Drying:
Once you have harvested the buds, it is important to trim off excess leaf from the bud. Keep the little bit of leaf close to the bud as it also is full of THC goodness. Hang the buds on a line or coat hanger in a closet. It is important that the closet is clean, has air flow and is dark inside. The air must also be dry. A good way to get rid of excess humidity is to keep a few of those silica pouches that you find in a shoe box, or rice and salt in a bowl should do the trick.
The closet door must be kept slightly open to keep fresh air flowing through. It's the combination of dirt, damp and stale air that will bring on mould growth. Hang the buds for at least 2 weeks or until bending a stem makes a snapping noise. The weed can be smoked at this point but it is so much better to be patient until after the curing. Although the weed feels very dry, trust me there is still a lot of moisture within the buds. The idea of the curing is to slowly extract the moisture out of the bud.
Step 2, The Curing:
After the weed has dried, place the buds into a glass jar with a lid that seals the jar closed until air tight. Canning jars work very well here. I don't know what it is, but glass just does the job the best. Leave the jar in a dark, dry place. Leave the lid on tight for half the day, and off for the other half. When the lid is closed, the buds start to "sweat". When the jar is open, the "sweat" evapourates and leaves behind the THC in the form of crystals on the outside of the bud. Repeat this process for at least a month.
For best results, go for another month of curing, except this time, the jar only has to be open for half the time as before. Viola! You now have A-grade marijuana to enjoy and your dealer got the middle finger because chances are, you now have a much better product than what you can buy.
